How to Lose Weight and Reduce Sexual Promiscuity and Just About Anything Else Worth Doing

December 8, 2008

Dad is famous for a lot of great quotes.  Somehow, he has the “knack” for saying really big things in really simple ways that are easy to remember.  One of my favorite quotes from Dad is this one:

“You are who you are and what you are because of what has gone into your mind.  You can change who you are and what you are by changing what goes into your mind.”  Zig Ziglar

In other words, what you put into your mind impacts everything you do!  The chain of events works like this:

What goes into your mind determines your thoughts.

Your thoughts determine the words that you speak.

The words that you speak determine your actions.

Your actions determine your habits.

Your habits determine your character.

Your character determines your destiny.

I wish I had a really sophisticated reason as to why The Purity Diet worked for me.  All I can say is I was fat for over 35 years and then I decided that I needed to focus on eating pure, unprocessed foods and not eating any artificial chemicals.  My ability to stick to this idea was not because I have incredible will power or the pure food was easier and tastier, but because for six months before I even started the diet I was focused every day on putting the right things into my mind.  Then, when the “idea” of the Purity Diet popped up in my mind, I started a quest to learn about all of the pure and best foods available and the benefits of them.  I started talking about them to everyone and then I started making pure food choices.  Before I even realized it, this became a habit and my taste buds even changed!  Now eating pure is really a character quality I have, and I can tell you that my physical destiny has really changed since I have lost 80 pounds.

In my article, “Do They Care…Continued,” I gave a negative example of the exact same principle.  A new study shows that promiscuity in young girls goes up directly relating to how much adult-themed, sexually-oriented TV they watch.  Here is how the above principle plays out in the minds of young girls who put the wrong message into their heads.  “Hmm, seems like all the cool and successful people are ‘fooling around.’  I think I will talk to my friend about it. Yeah, everybody is doing it, I think I will give it a try.  I mean, why not, I will be careful…”

So, you see, the thought was inspired by what had gone into the mind and this led to words and then actions and so on.  Of course, many argue that watching TV isn’t that big a deal and really doesn’t influence what people do.  How much are Super Bowl ads again?

Dad boils all of this down into the Be, Do, and Have philosophy.  You gotta Be before you can Do, and you gotta Do before you can Have.  The Be part starts with what you put into your mind.  Until you BEcome the right kind of person, DOing the right things consistently will be very difficult, and HAVING any type of consistent, long-term success will be nearly impossible.

Whatever you want to accomplish starts with what you put into your mind.  Simple, I know.  Might as well put the pure stuff in if you want to get pure stuff out.

Yeah For Me! Pure Success!

Yesterday morning at 7:27 a.m. CST  I hit my goal weight of 175 pounds.  I know the time exactly because I started sitting in the sauna at 6:40 a.m. trying to get rid of that last almost two pounds.  When you are hyper focused and almost there, even a sauna feels great.  That’s 80 pound total I have lost on the Purity Diet.  Check out my other posts on Purity Diet for the details.  Bottom line is I feel great.

More good news is on Sunday when I get to Cancun I can look Dave Ramsey in the eye and tell him I hit my goal before the www.entreleadership.com seminar.   I am fired up about the event and am really looking forward to learning more about running a lean and profitable debt free business.  (Ziglar is not debt free…yet, but the company is on a corporate version of my Purity Diet and we are moving that way fast).

Here are some things you really need to check out.  We have two Webcasts coming up next week.  Go to www.ziglar.com/webinar and  http://www.passionfire.com/Zig.html.

Dad has really been blessed.  Check out the video at www.zigziglaraward.com.

Eating Pure and Simple

September 2, 2008

Losing almost 70 pounds in just over a year (I like saying almost 70 rather than 68, it just sounds like more!), I thought I would share with you two of my favorite things to eat.

My favorite breakfast is John McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal.  It is a very hearty oatmeal, no added flavors or chemicals, nothing processed, not the rolled kind but the little pellets.  It takes a little longer to cook, about 25 minutes on the stove.  I think the 25 minute build-up time actually makes you want it more and makes it more satisfying when you get it.  Once the oatmeal is cooked I add fresh berries to it like blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries.  I choose organic berries if I can find them.  I heard yesterday that organic berries have 50% more antioxidants than conventional ones, so that is a big plus.  I also add some walnuts and almonds to it.

This breakfast is warm, satisfying, natural, filling, a little sweet with the berries, and crunchy with the nuts.  It can easily hold you till lunch or your mid-morning snack and you don’t get the “heavy” feeling that often comes with a traditional big breakfast.

My favorite snack is very similar, but totally different in taste and texture.  I often have this snack as a dessert after dinner (but not too late).  I get non-fat plain organic yogurt and add the berries and the nuts to it.  Once again the berries add the sweet and the nuts add the crunch.

My dog Max loves it when I have this snack as well!  He gets to lick the bowl.  Many nights he will remind me right after dinner that I need to fix my “dessert”!  Eating pure and simple is really just a choice, and one that has all kinds of benefits.

Max enjoys non-fat yogurt! (so good you can eat it with your eyes closed!)

Moldy Bread is Good!

July 29, 2008

About 18 months ago I started on my mental Purity Diet.  I decided I would listen to and read the good stuff every day.  Thirteen months ago I started on my physical Purity Diet.  I decided I would eat only pure, unprocessed food the way God made it.  I have lost just over 70 pounds in the last year and feel awesome.  I am convinced that if I hadn’t started the mental diet first I wouldn’t have stuck to the physical one.

People ask me what I eat and what I don’t eat.  The biggest change for me has been bread.  I don’t eat much bread anymore unless it is unprocessed sprouted bread like Ezekiel Bread.

“Where do you find that bread?” seems to be the immediate response.  “You find it in the freezer section,” I say.  “Why?” they ask.  “Because it is unprocessed and doesn’t have the preservatives in it like most bread, so it will get moldy very fast.”

Of course. most people think moldy bread is bad.  I remember when I was a kid our bread would get moldy after just a few days.  Now it can be literally weeks before the bread turns green.  Fact is, the bread has so many chemicals in it the mold is just too smart to eat it!  Imagine that, mold having more sense than we do when picking bread!  A good rule of thumb when choosing food – if it’s not good enough for mold, its not good enough for you!  (Check out more on my diet: The Purity Diet)
